About Me

I am both a technical person and an artist. I hold degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. In addition, I have had considerable training as a photographer. I have worked directly with top professional photographers and have studied the physics and theoretical aspects of photography. I also maintain an interest in computational photography. This is an emerging technical field of engineering that will one day allow us to expand the potential of digital photography well beyond present-day technology.

The artistic side of me allows me to use my technical expertise in creative ways. Photographing jewelry, products, and architecture all require a deep understanding of the technology as well as a practical knowledge of how to control it to get the desired effect. I pride myself on being able to create not only images that are appealing to my clients, but images that are artistic in their own right.

Although I have chosen to specialize in certain areas of photography where only a small number of photographers have ventured I still enjoy all kinds of photography.  I have worked with many models and covered quite a number of corporate and private events.  I always welcome these engagements.

Well, the above explains my "geeky/artistic" side but I have yet another dimension. I am an avid table tennis player. Table tennis is perhaps one of the fastest racket sports and is extremely difficult to photograph well. The ball moves at speeds of 80 to 100 mph and the photography is most often taken in low-light conditions. Capturing the action means fast shooting, lenses and cameras with specifications that allow me to overcome the low-light conditions and an eye for the action. It is this type of experience that I carry into my work with other sports as well. While other sports impose their own challenges having taken tens of thousands of table tennis images has given me the strong transferable skills to tackle these as well.

When I work with a client I like to think that I have not only acquired a client but also a collaborator. There is nothing better for me than to hear that a customer is as pleased with the image I produced as they are with their own handicraft. So too, in the architectural realm, I strive to convey the essence of the building in it's natural surroundings giving the form richness and dimension. For action sports  I look to bring the excitement of the action that happened at the moment and preserve it forever.
